Sarver Family Famous Chocolate Chip Cookies

This was handed down from a dear friend's Grandma Judy. They are the best chocolate chip cookies I've ever had and she graciously shared the recipe!  I use a small cookie scoop which makes them perfect for little hands!

1 cup shortening
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon hot water
1 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cup white flour
3/4 cup whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups rolled oats
1 package chocolate chips

In a large bowl, combine shortening, sugars, eggs, water and vanilla. Mix dry ingredients together and add to the sugar mixture; beat well. Fold in oats and chocolate chips. Bake at 400 for 10 minutes. Remove from oven and transfer to a cooling rack for a couple of minutes. Cool cookies on rack.

  1. You were right. These are delicious! The boys loved helping me make them. Gabey was disappointed when I explained the difference between 10 seconds and 10 minutes while we were waiting for them to bake. :)
